Leaf Coloring Pages

Maple leaves, oak leaves and a lucky four leaf clover are all here to color. Up first are cartoon leaves with happy faces. One of them even floats on a puddle like a little boat. Most people print these leaf coloring pages in the fall. The ferns and palm leaves are fun at any time of year.

After that come leaves that look real, with every vein drawn in. This part has a ginkgo twig, an oak branch with acorns and leaves floating down a stream. Patterns fill every leaf on the last sheets. Those are for teens and adults. Our flower coloring pages go well with this set.

What Makes Leaves Turn Orange in Fall?

Leaves are green because of a green color inside them called chlorophyll. It helps the leaf turn sunlight into food for the tree. In fall the days get shorter and colder, so the tree stops making it. The green fades and the yellow and orange that were hiding underneath start to show. Some trees like maples also make bright red. After that the leaves turn brown, dry up and drop to the ground.

Making a Leaf Look Real

Pick two shades of the same color. Fill the whole leaf with the light one. Go over the edges and the part near the stem with the darker one. Keep the veins a little lighter so they stand out. A fall maple leaf can go from yellow in the middle to orange and red at the tips.
